* Winter break 2016 runs inclusive from Thursday, December 22, 2016 through Wednesday, January 4, 2017. Most faculty and staff will return on Thursday, January 5, 2017.
Please note: Should the Governor decide to grant all state employees additional time off in November or December of 2016, or January 2017, it will be in place of, not in addition to, the leave granted by the University for the same period.
1Extra 8 hours of leave granted by the Governor.
2When the office closes for half a day, full-time employees receive 4 hours of holiday leave (part-time receive holiday pay proportionate to their FTE) but still need to account for an 8 hour day either by working or taking leave.
In order to receive Thanksgiving and Winter Break holiday pay, you must be at work or on paid leave the last scheduled full day, the 1/2 day of, and the first scheduled work day after the holiday (e.g. for many, you must be at work or on paid leave on Tuesday, November 21 and Wednesday, November 22 as well as the first scheduled work day after the holiday). Please be sure to check your leave balances to ensure you have the hours available if you are using leave on these days.
3Monday, January 1, 2018 is a 2018 holiday. Winter break includes 4 additional hours of holiday leave granted by the Governor for 12.22.17 and 8 additional hours for 12.26.17. Most faculty and staff will return to work on Wednesday, January 3, 2018.
1. Winter convocation is on Thursday, December 21, 2017.
2. Some salaried employees may be required to work during winter break in order to provide necessary services (e.g. Mason Recreation, Police, HR & Payroll, Athletics, Advancement, Registrar, Admissions, etc.). In these cases the employee will receive compensatory time for the hours worked to be used within one year. Wage employees who work during winter break will not receive compensatory time.
