Illness

(including maternity)

Coverage may continue 12 months; the employer pays its contribution with certification of disability and only if the employee pays the employee premium. Without certification, the leave is treated as personal leave. The employer makes no VRS contribution; no service credit is earned; service credit can be purchased upon return. Coverage may continue 24 months; the employer makes full contribution.
Approved Educational Leave from work to pursue study related to work at the University Coverage may continue 12 months; in general, the employer pays no contribution and the employee pays the entire cost. The employer makes no VRS contribution; no service credit is earned; service credit can be purchased upon return. Coverage may continue 24 months; the employer makes full contribution.
Layoff Coverage may continue 12 months; the employer pays its contribution and the employee pays the employee premium. The employer makes no VRS contribution; no service credit is earned and service credit cannot be purchased upon return. Coverage may continue 12 months; the employer makes full contribution.
Agency Convenience Coverage may continue 4 months; the employer pays its contribution and the employee pays the employee premium. The employer makes no VRS contribution; no service credit is earned and service credit cannot be purchased upon return. Coverage may continue 24 months; the employer makes full contribution.
Military COBRA coverage available at active employee rate. The employer makes no VRS contribution; no service credit is earned; service credit can be purchased upon return. Coverage may continue 24 months; the employer makes full contribution.
