When will I receive my pay increase?
- The pay increase will be effective for the pay period starting November 25, 2007 for all eligible instructional, administrative/professional and research faculty. The new rate will appear in the paycheck of December 14, 2007.
- Adjunct faculty will receive a matrix increase for the spring semester
How much is the increase?
- Instructional, administrative/professional and research faculty will receive variable increases at the discretion of the unit dean. The increase will average 4% overall. Research faculty increases will depend on available contractual agreements with the grant or contract and principal investigators may propose up to 4%.
- Increases are given on the base salary, excluding stipends, except in the case of Eminent Scholars where increases are given on the full stipends. For questions, please contact the Compensation Team at compteam@gmu.edu
I'm paid from a grant. Do I automatically receive the increase?
- Instructional, administrative/professional and research faculty funded by a grant may be eligible depending upon the contract and the funding source.
How do I know if I'm eligible?
- Most faculty hired prior to September 1, 2007 are eligible. Newly hired instructional, research, administrative/professional faculty may or may not be eligible for the increase depending upon contractual arrangements.

When will I receive my pay increase?
- The pay increase will be effective for the pay period starting November 25, 2007 for all eligible classified employees. The new rate will appear in the paycheck of December 14, 2007.
How much is the increase?
- All classified employees, including probationary employees hired between October 25, 2006 and July 24, 2007, who receive a performance evaluation rating of "Fair Performer" or better on their 2007 Performance Evaluation will receive a salary increase of 4.0%.
- Part-time classified employees will receive an amount proportionate to the hours worked.
I'm still on probation. Do I have to be evaluated?
- Yes. Probationary employees hired prior to July 25, 2007 will receive their 6 or 11 month evaluation. This evaluation will establish eligibility for the increase.
- Supervisors may use either the Probationary Progress Review form or the standard annual evaluation form. It is important that the employee receive a performance evaluation rating.
Will the pay band minimums be increased?
- The pay band minimums will be increased by 4% effective November 25th, 2007. Departments are encouraged to consider the pay band minimums when hiring anyone after July 25th. The new pay bands are posted on the Human Resources & Payroll website under "Classification and Compensation".
I'm paid from a grant. Do I receive the increase?
- Classified employees paid from a grant or auxiliary funds are eligible for the raise regardless of funding source.
Do I have to have a Performance Evaluation on file?
- Yes, classified employees must have a 2007 performance evaluation on file in Human Resources & Payroll by October 24, 2007 in order to be eligible for the increase.
- If supervisors do not complete and submit a performance evaluation to Human Resources & Payroll by the deadline, eligible employees will not rece ive an increase.
What happens if an employee is out on extended medical leave and cannot sign the performance evaluation?
- If the expected performance rating of the employee is "Fair Performer" or better, the supervisor can sign for the employee or contact Human Resources & Payroll so that the rating can be noted. This will make it possible for the employee to receive the increase.
- If the expected performance rating is "Unsatisfactory Performer", please contact the Human Resources & Payroll Employee Relations team.
Am I eligible for an increase if I've transferred from another state agency and was hired after July 25th, 2007?
- Yes, classified employees transferring from another state agency who do not have a break in service are eligible for the November 25th increase. A c opy of the completed performance evaluation from the previous supervisor is required.
What do I do if my supervisor does not do the performance evaluation? Would I still receive the 4% increase?
- In order to receive the increase, you must receive a rating of "Fair Performer" or better on the Performance Review or Probationary Progress Review f orm. If you have not heard from your supervisor about your performance evaluation by October 19th, follow up with your supervisor. You may also con tact the Employee Relations team for assistance.
What is the Acknowledgment of Extraordinary Contribution form?
- In order for an employee to earn an overall "Extraordinary Achiever" rating on the annual evaluation, an employee must have received at least one Ack nowledgment of Extraordinary Contribution form during the performance cycle. The Acknowledgment of Extraordinary Contribution form documents and rec ognizes an extraordinary contribution that the employee made in the performance of their duties. The form can be found on the Human Resources websit e at http://hr.gmu.edu/forms/ under Performance Management. The receipt of an Acknowledgment of Extraordinary Contribution form does not guarantee an overall performance rating of "Extraordinary Achiever" for that performance cycle.
What is the performance evaluation cycle?
- The annual cycle during which an employee's supervisor documents performance, starts each year on October 25th and ends the following October 24th.

- Wage employees (non-student, student and college work study), not funded by a grant or contract may receive the increase for the pay period starting November 25, 2007.
- The new rate will appear in the paycheck of December 14, 2007.
How much is the increase?
- Eligible wage employees will receive a 4.0% increase.
How do I know if I'm eligible?
- Wage employees, funded by educational and general funds, must have been employed on or before May 24, 2007 and must still be employed on November 14, 2007.
- Deans/Directors have discretion in granting raises. Not all units will approve an across-the-board raise

- Wage employees paid from a grant or contract may also be eligible depending upon the contract with the funding source. The principal investigator must approve the raise and submit an electronic approval to HR/Payroll by November 25, 2007.

When will I receive my pay increase?
- The pay increase will be effective for the pay period starting January 10, 2008 for eligible graduate teaching assistants. The new rate will appear in the paycheck of February 1, 2008.
How much is the increase?
- Graduate teaching assistants are eligible to receive a 4.0% increase.
How do I know if I'm eligible?
- Graduate teaching assistants must be employed for the spring semester and be approved by the department for the increase. Rosters will be sent to departments later this year by the Budget Office.
I'm paid from a grant. Do I receive the increase?
- Graduate research assistants paid from a grant or contract may also be eligible depending upon the contract with the funding source. The principal investigator must approve the raise. Departments will be asked to submit their recommendations to the Budget Office by early January.
