Employee Assistance Service

Employees are often affected by personal problems which spill over into the work environment. Problems such as marital or family difficulties, financial problems, alcohol and drug abuse, and medical or mental disorders can have an adverse effect on an employee's productivity.

To address these concerns, each of the George Mason University's health insurance plans has a mental health and substance abuse provision. Each has a telephone number which employees may call for a referral and/or approval to see a health care professional for the problem. For information about which employee assistance benefit your health insurance offers, contact Human Resources & Payroll at 703.993.2600 and ask to speak to a member of the Benefits Team.

The Human Resources & Payroll Department also maintains information about helpful resources in the community for other types of problems. Resources to assist with such problems as financial distress, support groups, care for aging parents and day care for children are available to all George Mason employees. For further information or a referral to a helpful resource, contact Human Resources & Payroll at 703.993.2600 and ask to speak with our Employee Relations Team or our Work/Life & Communications Coordinator.
