Changing Jobs

George Mason University is a dynamic place to work. It is possible your job will grow and change over the next few years or you may see a new or vacant position that interests you. We encourage you to find the place at Mason where you can be most productive, creative and satisfied.

At any time, you may apply for other positions for which you are qualified. Available positions are posted at http://jobs.gmu.edu. We also have a job line at (703) 993-4000.

If you are selected for a position in a higher band, a promotion, you will receive a salary adjustment according to the DHRM Policy 3.05, Compensation.

If you move to another position in the same band, a lateral transfer, the increase is negotiable between the minimum salary of the new job and 15% above your current salary due to changes in the Northern Virginia Differential. If you move to a position at a lower pay band, a demotion, there may be a salary decrease as allowed by DHRM policy.

If your job changes significantly, it may warrant reallocation, which is a change in role due to restructuring or gradual change in the duties and responsibilities of your position. If the changes result in an upward role change, you may receive a salary adjustment, up to 10% above current salary. If the changes result in a downward role change, we try to retain your current pay but there may be a salary decrease, especially if your current salary is above the maximum level for the new job title.

Details of the hiring process at George Mason are in Administrative Policy 43, "Recruitment and Hiring of University Employees.
