Hours of Work

Full-time appointments for classified staff are for forty hours per week, with regular business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Your schedule may vary, according to the needs of your unit. Your supervisor will discuss your specific work schedule with you. Meal periods are unpaid and are a minimum of 30 minutes. If your meal break is more than 30 minutes, your work day should be extended accordingly. Part-time appointments include an unpaid meal period of at least 30 minutes if your work day exceeds six hours. Supervisors may grant employees who work an eight-hour day or longer a maximum of one 15-minute rest break before and one 15-minute rest break after the required lunch period. Breaks cannot be used for late arrival at work or early departure or to extend your meal period.

The University allows flex-time schedules, with the approval of your supervisor. These alternate hours of work may accommodate 24 hour operations, transportation arrangements, dependent care needs or preferred unit operating hours. Flex-time schedules should be put in writing to assure all parties understand the approved hours of work. If it becomes necessary to request a permanent schedule change, you should notify your supervisor well in advance of the needed change. Your supervisor will need time to evaluate your request to determine whether business requirements can be met with the work schedule change.
