Standards of Performance and Conduct
Preventing Workplace Violence
George Mason University is committed to providing faculty, staff, students and visitors a safe place to work, study and live. As an employee of the University, you have an obligation to conduct yourself in a civil and professional manner at all times. Uncivil or threatening behavior will not be tolerated and supervisors will request assistance from University Police to maintain order.
If you are concerned for your safety, you should immediately report your concerns to your supervisor. Supervisors should remain alert to dramatic changes in an employee's behavior or work performance.
Supervisors may want to seek advice regarding prevention of workplace violence and the development of a safe environment. Assistance is available through the Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Payroll, Director of Environmental Health and Safety, Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, University Counsel or Vice President for University Life.
Details of the policy pertaining to a safe work environment are contained in Administrative Policy #2208, Preventing Workplace Violence.
