Paycheck Calculator
Thinking about changing your deductions or taxes? Wonder what your raise will look like after taxes? Have questions about net and changes to your tax shelter or 403(b)?
Follow the steps below to use the paycheck calculator to give you those answers
- Tax year - current year
- For - the state you live in, not work in. For most that's Virginia
- Gross pay- put in your gross paycheck before any deductions. Select per pay period
- Pay frequency is either semimonthly (16th and 30th) or biweekly (every other Friday)
- Federal filing status - fill in these next few boxes either with your current W-4 information (which is available online on employee self serve on the Patriot Web), or if you want to know how it will change if you modify your status put in the new info.
- Follow the same for the state you live in. Do not round on withholding as our system doesn't round on taxes
- Voluntary deductions - enter in all of your voluntary deductions that currently come out of your check. You will need to indicate the tax status of each. All health deductions and flexible spending accounts (dependent care and medical) are exempt from all of the taxes so check each box. All retirement, 403(b), 457, and parking deductions are exempt from federal, state and local only. Optional life, disability, long term care, VA college savings plan (VPEP), and savings bond deductions are not tax exempt, so check none of the boxes for these if you have them. If you have a child support order or other garnishment don't forget to enter those to get an accurate net number on your calculation. They are not exempt from any form of tax.
- Once you have all of the above information entered hit calculate to arrive at the net paycheck check amount. You can continue to enter varying amounts on this site to get to all of the calculation and deduction answers you're after.
