Congratulations to New SUPERvisor Series participants
John Blacksten, Jingxiao Feng, and Korey Singleton, who were nominated for the Staff Senate's Outstanding Supervisor Award for Spring 2009!New SUPERvisor Series -- Program goals and objectives
The goal of the New SUPERvisor Series is to train individuals who supervise one or more employee(s) and have fewer than five years of supervisory experience at Mason.
Requirements:
Classes: Each individual participating in the New SUPERvisor Series must complete a contract choosing six (6) required classes and three (3) optional classes.
Mentor: Select a mentor, with whom you will meet twice a month in 2 half-hour sessions for 10 months (for a total of 10 hours). Complete an electronic mentor journal.
Final Project: Complete a project with either your supervisor or your employee(s). Meet, discuss with your peers (SUPERvisors in the series), and present the project at the Retreat class.
Evaluation: Complete 360 evaluations:
- Co-workers
- Employees
- Self-Evaluation
- Supervisor
The objectives are:
At the end of the New SUPERvisor Series the participants will be able to:
- List the responsibilities and duties associated with being a Mason supervisor
- Participate in the hiring process
- Use and understand Employee Relations policies, procedures and documents
- Discuss diversity, EEOC, and harassment issues with staff
- Use skills to improve employee retention
- Recognize work/life balance
- Gain practical supervisory experience by meeting with a mentor
- Create a custom curriculum plan to be sure that each participant meets their personal and professional objectives
- Complete 360 Evaluation
- Complete a final project working with staff or supervisor
