Faculty Orientation
Faculty orientation is scheduled through the NEW Center. Faculty are encouraged to visit the NEW Center on or before their first day of employment. Orientations are held in Commerce Building I, 3rd floor. Please let the front desk know you are here for faculty orientation.
If you need them, driving directions are available.
This orientation session is mandatory for all new faculty, both benefits eligible part-time (50% or more appointment time) and full-time. See our faculty orientation calendar for a complete list of orientation dates.
Prior to the employee's attending a formal orientation, supervisors should:- Make sure the new hire paperwork is completed, this is usually done by HR. HR will send new hires a welcome letter including instructions to visit the NEW Center on their first day, but a reminder never hurts. (Exception: If orientation is their first day at work, it may be done immediately prior to the orientation session.)
- Print a copy of the Supervisor Checklist, http://hr.gmu.edu/forms/Supervisor_Checklist.doc, which provides a guide of key tasks.
- Make sure the employee knows when and where orientation will be held and provide detailed directions to the location.
- Remind the employee to bring to orientation the Benefits Packet they received at the NEW Center.
