How do I start my Mason email?

To activate your Mason email and other online accounts go to http://tsd.gmu.edu/services/strongpassword/Systems-Included.cfm. The same password and username (also called Net ID) will allow you to access your email as well as many other Mason computer systems (for example, Blackboard and Patriot Web). Once you are on this website, scroll down and click on the "I'm new to Patriot Pass" option. You will need your G number (the unique identification number which Mason assigns to all students, staff, and faculty) and PIN. Please ask your department or HR & Payroll (703.993.2600) for your G number. Your six-digit PIN is your birth date in the format of MMDDYY. For example, if your birthday is June 23, 1983, then your PIN would be 062383.

Once you have entered your G number and PIN, the next screen will show your username or Net ID at Mason. Please make a note of this, since in the future you will be asked for your username/Net ID when logging into some Mason systems. Also, this is the prefix for your Mason email. Your Mason email will be your username@gmu.edu. For example, if your username is gmason37, then your Mason email account will be gmason37@gmu.edu. The next step is to click on the continue bar at the bottom of the page. You will then be given instructions for a few more quick steps to activate your Mason accounts.

A list of the Mason computer systems that use this access method is available on http://strongpassword.gmu.edu/systems.html. If you need access to a system that is not listed or have problems activating your account, please call the ITU Support Center at 703.993.8870.

If a new employee begins working at Mason on any date other than the first of the month, health plan coverage can be effective the first day of the following month; if the health enrollment form is received at Human Resources within 30 calendar days of his/her date of hire. For example, a new employee's first day at Mason is August 10th. Health coverage for this new employee can begin on September 1st, if the completed health enrollment form is received at Human Resources on or before September 8th.

For employees who start at Mason on the first day of the month, health coverage can be effective beginning on that same day, if the enrollment form is received by Human Resources within 30 calendar days. For example, if employment begins on February 1st and the enrollment form is received within 30 days of the employment date, the health coverage is effective on February 1st.

Employees must enroll in health coverage within 30 calendar days of employment. Employees who waive health insurance when first hired, can only elect coverage under a qualifying mid-year event (for example, marriage or birth of a child) or during the annual open enrollment in the spring.
