Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from September 15 - October 15.
The 2024 theme for Hispanic Heritage Month is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.”
The observance of National Hispanic Heritage Week was proclaimed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968. It was later expanded to a month-long celebration in 1988 under President Ronald Reagan.
The celebration includes the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries: on September 15 El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Honduras celebrate their Independence. Mexico celebrates its Independence on September 16 and Chile commemorates its independence on September 18.
October 12, also known throughout Latin America as Dia de la Raza and Indigenous People’s Day celebrated in many places throughout the United States also falls within the month.
