Elevating Employee Experience: A C3 Success Story
When you share honest feedback through the Faculty and Staff Experience Survey, open from April 1-21, 2026, you're not speaking into a void, you're providing the data that shapes priorities, resource allocation, and workplace improvements. In direct response to the 2024 Faculty and Staff Experience Survey, George Mason Facilities & Campus Operations (F&CO) formed the Culture Champion Committee, also known as “C3.”
The committee serves as a dedicated forum where F&CO employees can share ideas, surface concerns, and cultivate a more inclusive, appreciative culture. C3’s mission is to ensure every F&CO employee feels heard, included, and valued while driving authentic engagement and encouraging a shared sense of belonging.
C3 in Action: Initiatives Rooted in Survey Data
- Facilities Employee of the Month
C3 collaborated with F&CO Human Resources to spotlight outstanding staff members. Anonymous nominations are collected monthly, reviewed by committee members, and winners announced through official channels, reinforcing a culture of appreciation.
Inspired by the survey's emphasis on belonging and celebrating all-inclusive diversity, C3 launched this campaign to highlight unique achievements. Employees nominate peers, and C3 showcases their stories, like Brenda Claudio’s environmental leadership and Kevin Brim’s efforts in zero-waste management.
- Recognition & Social Events
To combat isolation across three campus locations, C3 organizes seasonal gatherings: barbecues, picnics, birthday announcements, and more.
- Continuous Feedback Loop
C3 launched “Good News” shoutouts, digital comment boxes (introduced during the June 2024 All Hands meeting), and a birth-month recognition feature, all designed to elevate appreciation and open communication.
The Impact: From Survey to Sustained Engagement
The F&CO department’s ability to move swiftly from survey data to action sets a powerful example. By launching C3, they've institutionalized listening, recognition, inclusion, and continuous improvement. C3’s future initiatives include enhancing equity across campuses, adding new engagement initiatives based on emerging feedback, and conducting pulse surveys to assess and adjust efforts.
