The Faculty & Staff Experience Committee defines employee engagement at Mason as:
Employee engagement is the extent to which employees feel connected to their job and the positive impact their role has on the university; are committed to advancing the goals and objectives of their unit; put effort into their work both as individuals and as members of teams, and can thrive both personally and professionally.
Furthermore, the Faculty & Staff Experience Committee acknowledges that employee engagement is, and must be, predicated by a solid strengths-based culture where well-being is centered and led by senior and team leaders who have robust employee engagement themselves and are committed to encouraging it in their teams.
Understand, create space for, and engage in better inclusion and belonging practices
A work environment that makes a conscious effort to include and make everyone belong is an environment that allows, encourages, and creates a space for people to grow professionally and personally.
When everyone is consciously included and belongs, people feel more connected to their work, their role, and each other which expands and deepens the impact and meaning of their work.
Diversity includes the spectrum of all races, ethnicity, neurodiversities, differing abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities, political affiliations, cultures, religious practices, and thought.
