Faculty and Staff Experience Survey

The survey data is critical for Mason’s strategic plan metrics for success and will inform decision-making. This first administration of the survey will serve as a baseline measure for Mason.

Survey results will be presented to senior leaders including: 

• Executive Council 
• President's Council 
• Deans & Division Leadership 
• Faculty Senate 
• Staff Senate 

Senior leaders will work with our partners at Gallup, Faculty & Staff Experience Committee, and the Organizational Development and Learning team to develop robust action plans, include these in annual planning and goal setting and measure again in the Engagement Cycle. 

Survey results will identify Mason employees’ levels of engagement and data specific to workgroups/divisions will be available. 

Please note: All responses are aggregated into working groups consisting of no fewer than five employees to ensure responses cannot be traced back to the individual. 

Leaders and managers will have access to the aggregated results for their workgroup/division at the analysis and reporting phases of the project through Gallup's Access Portal. The Organizational Development & Learning team will partner with managers in the action planning phase. 

As workgroup and division successes and areas for improvement are identified on a more local level, Gallup provides a robust library of Action Planning ideation grounded in their years of research on employee engagement. Suggested areas for focus in action planning activities will be available through Gallup's Access Portal. 

Faculty and staff members play a critical role in creating an engaged workplace. We are all responsible for seeking meaningful and engaging opportunities. All employees, whether they participate in the survey or not, can be involved in action planning within their units. During the collaborative action planning and change processes, employees and leaders will work together to create action plans that will improve the work environment. 

Faculty & Staff Experience Committee members are encouraged to continue serving as ambassadors and advocates for the reviewing and communicating of survey results and the development and implementation of action plans. 

Many colleges and business units created action plans from the 2022 Gallup survey results, participated in pulse surveys and focus groups, and worked to incorporate engagement strategies based on individual/team/unit results.

Action planning with the 2024 Faculty and Staff Experience Survey results will be supported by HR’s Faculty and Staff Engagement and Organizational Development and Learning teams.
