Inclement Weather and Telework: Policy 2207

With the winter storm this weekend, now is the perfect time to review the Inclement Weather/Emergency Closure Policy and begin discussing flexible work options with your supervisor and/or direct report(s). HR Liaisons, please check in with the supervisors in your unit to ensure everyone is prepared and taking equipment home as needed.

What You Need to Know 


Who Is Designated?

  • Designated Employees: Employees identified by their supervisor or department head as essential for maintaining operations during emergencies. 

  • If their supervisor approves and there is a business unit need, student and non-student wage employees may telework during inclement weather closures without a formal signed agreement.

1. I am a fully onsite (non-designated) employee without a telework agreement. What do I do during a university closure?

If a non-designated employee has the necessary tools at home to meet system security standards for telework, they are expected to telework.

2. What should supervisors and department heads do to prepare for inclement weather closures? 

  • 3. What type of leave is granted for a non-designated employee with childcare responsibilities due to local K12 school closures and is unable to work remotely during a university closure?
  • Employees should work with their supervisor to take unscheduled leave if they are unable to fulfill job responsibilities during the university closure.
