May is Asian American and Pacific Islanders Heritage Month!
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month! This month celebrates the contributions and achievements of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.
The month of May was chosen to mark the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the United States on May 7, 1843, as well as the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. In 1978, a congressional resolution established Asian and Pacific American heritage week. In 1992, Congress expanded this observance to a month-long celebration known today as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month. Please join Mason in celebrating the rich culture, traditions, and histories of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
