University Day Service Awards

Overview 


University Day Service Awards at honor faculty and staff who have served George Mason University or the Commonwealth of Virginia for periods ranging from 5 to 50+ years. Each year, full-time faculty and staff who are celebrating a 5-year milestone anniversary of continuous state service will be recognized.   

Eligibility for the George Mason service award will be based on a minimum of 5 years of continuous state service including previous, continuous employment at other state agencies and is in accordance with DHRM Policy 1.15 and George Mason Policy 2210. This award is presented only for service and does not apply to performance.   

 

Details 


The annual Green Day breakfast ceremony celebrates employees having served 5-15 years with the university and/or the Commonwealth of Virginia, while the Gold Day lunch ceremony celebrates those with 20+ years of service. 

Green Day service award recipients will have the option to receive celebration kits (George Mason pin and mini-certificate). Gold Day service award recipients can opt-in to receive a celebration kit (certificate in acrylic frame, George Mason pin) and a service anniversary gift catalog.   

 

Eligibility 


To be eligible for a Service Award, you must be a classified staff, administrative/professional faculty, or instructional/research faculty member who started employment with the Commonwealth of Virginia or George Mason within a qualifying timeframe (calendar year). Wage and part-time positions are not eligible for service awards. 

Service years are calculated from an employee's adjusted service date, which is based on the state's calculation and credit of prior and current service.
