University Day Service Awards

The University Day service award ceremonies recognize individuals who have served George Mason University and/or the Commonwealth of Virginia for 5 through 50 years of service.

To be eligible for a Service Award, you must be a classified staff, administrative/professional faculty, or instructional/research faculty member who started employment with the Commonwealth of Virginia or Mason within a qualifying timeframe. The qualifying timeframe is based on the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). For more information, please contact the Faculty & Staff Engagement team at awards@gmu.edu.

Service years are calculated from an employee's adjusted service date, which is based on the state's calculation and credit of prior and current service.

Yes, you are welcome to bring your supervisor or department head to your respective ceremony. You will receive an email invitation with instructions on how to RSVP.

Both Green and Gold days have their own unique personalities, but you can expect a full meal, music, and a program honoring you for your years of service.

5 – 15 years of service – You will receive a celebration kit that includes a certificate and pin. Celebration kits will be provided during the Green Day ceremony. Remote workers or those who cannot attend will have their kits mailed to them. Please use the RSVP link on your formal invitation and update personal information to ensure correct delivery mode of the celebration kit.

20 – 50 years of service – You will receive a celebration kit that includes a framed certificate, a pin, and a gift catalog. Celebration kits will be provided during the Gold Day ceremony. Remote workers or those who cannot attend will have their kits mailed to them. Please use the RSVP link on your formal invitation and update personal information to ensure correct delivery mode of the celebration kit.
