Updated Flexible Work Guidance

The Faculty and Staff Engagement Team would like to share updates with individuals who have an active Flexible Work Agreement in MasonLEAPS.

In May 2022, all hybrid and remote telework Classified employees were required to complete the Commonwealth's Standard Telework Agreement (via Dynamic Forms) to align with DHRM’s Telework Policy 1.61. This telework agreement is approved for a maximum of one year and must be resubmitted to the state annually. As a result of this new state policy, we are in the final stages of updating Mason’s telework policy. (Note that the Standard Telework Agreement is for the Commonwealth of Virginia's records and the Flexible Work Agreement is for Mason's records.)

To better align Mason's processes with the commonwealth, the Flexible Work Agreement will now be submitted through Dynamic Forms rather than MasonLEAPS. If you choose, you can complete the new form now! You can also choose to wait until your current agreement in MasonLEAPS ends and then complete the new form.

Please note the following changes to the new Flexible Work Agreement:

  1. The 3-month supervisor check-in is no longer required.
  2. Flexible work requests may be approved for a duration of up to 12 months (previously up to 15 months). This change corresponds directly to the new state policy.

For further guidance on employee classification, telework/flexible work request type, and required forms, please refer to the chart below.

Out-of-state and international employees are required to complete Mason’s Out-of-State and International Full-Time Remote Worker Request Form, which must be initiated by the employee’s supervisor. Note that in some cases employees must complete BOTH the Commonwealth’s Standard Telework Agreement and Mason’s Out-of-State/International form.

To get started on your new Flexible Work Agreement, log into Dynamic Forms. If you have questions, please contact the Faculty and Staff Engagement Team at engagehr@gmu.edu.
