Lisa Hughes, MA


Lisa has over 30 years of federal service within the Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense. She has held a wide variety of positions, including analyst, program manager, contracting officer’s technical representative, and executive leader and manager. She is married and has two grown sons and two Labrador retrievers. She loves working with people and driving for mission success, which led her to pursue coaching as another avenue to help others thrive. Lisa completed George Mason University’s ICF-accredited Coaching for Organizational Well-Being training program and is thrilled to bring her coaching practice to George Mason’s Workplace Coaching Program. She looks forward to working with clients in pursuing their goals, growing, and thriving.

Lisa is an optimistic and empathetic listener who seeks not just to listen, but to truly hear and understand what others have to sayand, sometimes, what they don’t say. She sees the potential in others and, as a coach, works with clients to discover that potential in themselves.  Lisa is a renowned asker of questions, a skill which helps her to partner with clients on their journey of self-discovery and how to bring (and be) their best selves in all aspects of their lives. She strives to help her clients further develop their ability to face life’s inevitable challenges with grace and a sense of inner peace and confidence.

Relevant Experience


 

Lisa completed her coaching certification at George Mason University’s Center for the Advancement of Well-Being. Her program of study was founded in Leadership Coaching for Organizational Well-Being, which included focus on mindfulness, resilience, and strengths-based approaches and methodologies. She brings over 30 years of professional experience to her coaching practice.

Education and Professional Affiliations


 

Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree in National Security Strategy from National Defense University’s National War College. She also completed the Women’s Senior Leadership Program at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Business Executive Leadership Institute. Lisa is a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
