Workplace Coaching

The Mason Workplace Coaching Program

Mason’s internal Workplace Coaching program exists to provide all university faculty and staff an opportunity for professional growth and wellbeing. Are you looking to make a positive change in some aspect of your career or life? Could you use some support toward the achievement of your goals? If so, you may be an ideal candidate for coaching.

Workplace coaching is a partnership between a Mason coach and an individual that encourages positive behavioral change, both professionally and personally. Our coaches promote self-discovery and hold coachees accountable for generating their own solutions and strategies for greater well-being.

Please note: Mason’s workplace coaching program is a developmental program as opposed to performance-based coaching. In developmental coaching, the change is self-motivated and comes from a personal or professional goal, which the employee explores with a coach who is a partner in the journey. Developmental coaching can’t be assigned as a “corrective” action – it must come from the coachee’s own interest in growth and change. Engagement with a coach is self-initiated and completely confidential between coachee and coach.

Coaching-style performance conversations to support behavior change are managed by the Employee Relations team. In performance coaching, structured conversations are held about the areas of needed improvement. Timely, clear feedback with examples is provided so the employee can understand where the gap is and what is expected.
