The Employment Process

How To Apply

George Mason University is pleased to announce the roll out of e-Work at Mason, a paperless, electronic application process.

When you access the job listing for the position you are interested in, you will be given application instructions. Most job openings will direct you to apply on-line; job openings that became available before e-Work will contain "Special Instructions" letting you know how to apply.

All job openings open to external as well as internal candidates can be found at http://jobs.gmu.edu.

We hope that you find e-Work at Mason easy to use and would welcome your comments.

The current application process depends on the employment category of the position being applied for. See the list below to determine the appropriate ways to apply.

Staff (Classified) Positions and Non Student Wage Positions:
All classified and non student wage positions are now part of e-Work.

Faculty Positions:
Each faculty employment announcement contains instructions on how to apply. If the announcement is not part of e-Work at Mason, the "Special Instructions" box will provide a contact name and University department address to which applicant materials should be directly mailed. Faculty applicants should not E-Mail or fax resumes to Human Resources.

Student Wage Positions:
Student wage positions are handled through Career Services. For questions or inquiries, please call (703) 993-2362 or email careerhp@gmu.edu.

Candidate Notification

Applicants for Staff (Classified) and Wage positions who are invited for an interview will be contacted, usually by phone. Due to the large number of applications for most positions, we are not able to notify those applicants not selected for an interview.

Interviews are generally arranged within two weeks after the closing date. Applicants can usually expect the process to take 10-15 days beyond the closing date for a final decision to be made. This time frame applies to most positions; however, there is no required time limit and it is possible for the process to take longer.

Search Extended Positions

If you have applied for a position that becomes "Search Extended," you need not reapply. Your application is still being considered.
