Transitioning After 15 Years of Service Expand One Year Transition Period: Teach two courses during the year No expected service activities May teach both courses during Fall or Spring, or one course each semester On the Election Form, please indicate Tier One and Option One Transitioning After 25 Years of Service Expand Two Year Transition Period: Teach two courses during the year First year - 50% reduction in service activities Second year - no expected service activities On the Election Form, please indicate Tier Two and Option One One Year Transition Period Teach one course during the year No expected service activities On the Election Form, please indicate Tier Two and Option Two Deadlines Expand To begin the transition period in the following Fall Semester: November 1 To begin the transition period in the following Spring Semester: April 1 Beginning the Process Expand Talk to your department chair/director and dean Complete both application forms: Election Form General Release Submit completed forms to the Office of the Provost Eligibility Expand To apply for Faculty Retirement Transition Program, participants must: Be at least 60 years of age Be tenured, full-time faculty Have worked at least 15 years, or 25 years at George Mason University (prior to the transition period) Have the approval of both the dean and chair/director, as well as the provost Agree to retire at the conclusion of the transition period Voluntarily participate in the program
