Gallup Success Story: Shannon Jordan and Housing and Residence Life

After the University Life All-Staff meeting, where UL-specific 2022 Gallup Faculty and Staff Experience survey data was revealed, Shannon Jordan, Associate Dean and Chief Housing Officer, together with Housing and Residential Life (HRL) leadership, set sail on a journey to transform employee engagement.

Charting a Course

Their expedition involved analyzing and sharing their data, rallying employees through engaging Human Resources-led focus groups, and sculpting a tailored action plan fueled by both numbers and narratives. This collaborative effort aimed to decipher insights, ignite change, and elevate employee engagement to new heights.

Anchoring Change

Amidst this whirlwind of activity, one initiative emerged as a beacon of change – the birth of the "HRL Appreciates" program. With this innovative approach, HRL set out to infuse their workplace with a newfound spirit of recognition and camaraderie, directly addressing Gallup survey question Q4: "In the last seven days, I've received recognition."

Cultivating Unity

From the inaugural HRL awards ceremony honoring outstanding contributions to a series of heartwarming social events strengthening bonds among staff, the program aimed to breathe life into the Gallup survey's call for more recognition.

A Testimony to Success

Through the "HRL Appreciates" program, Shannon and her team witnessed firsthand the power of acknowledgment. "One of our most remarkable successes," Shannon shares, "has been the overwhelming response to the HRL awards. These thoughtful recognitions not only uplifted morale but also instilled a sense of pride and appreciation among our dedicated team members."

Navigating Forward

With each award bestowed and every heartfelt gesture of gratitude exchanged, the halls of Housing and Residential Life reverberated with newfound energy and enthusiasm. The program's success served as a testament to the transformative potential of recognizing and celebrating achievements within the workplace.

Continuing the Journey

As anticipation mounts for the 2024 Gallup survey results, Housing and Residence Life stands ready to chart their progress. Armed with the lessons learned and fueled by the spirit of appreciation, Shannon and her team are poised to continue their journey of fostering a culture of recognition, collaboration, and open communication.
